Hi, I'm Jaime Alvarez and I'm a historian and political thinking.

I’ve been an educator for the last 11 years, exploring the relationship between history, politics, and the ideas that have shaped our world.

I’ve always believed that history is more than just remembering names and dates. It’s about understanding. Understanding why things happened and how those events correlate with each other.

That curiosity led me from studying history and political thought to researching the Texas-Mexico borderlands—where questions about power, sovereignty, violence, law, and identity rarely have simple answers.

But more than anything, I’m someone who likes asking difficult questions about the past and following them wherever the evidence leads.

STXHistorian is where I do that publicly.

Here, I write about history, political thought, power, education, and the ideas that help us make sense of the present—not because the past gives us easy answers, but because understanding it helps us ask better questions.
